Press

“More than chemistry- it’s a bond, and it’s an appreciation for music that’s just in (their) blood.”
-Kim Mannix Vermette, The Metro. February 8th, 2007

“…jewel in the crown being Angie Russell’s rocking, rich vocals. She pairs off with Ben Russell in singing and guitar duties, and the blend is infectious.”
- Ken Simmons, Feature Editor, The Telegram. April 14th, 2008

“Balls out, howling alt-rockers”
-Fateema Sayani, Ottawa Citizen. February 7th, 2007 & Thursday May 1st 2008

"A wailing vocal style, dare I say it, reminiscent of Janis Joplin. Yes, that's rather heady praise, but she earns it..."
-Calvin Daniels, Yorkton This Week. September 3rd, 2008

"..the band's stock (has) begun to rise. Their latest single, "Start Again", is featured on Much Music and they recently hit the road for a whirlwind tour..."
-Adam Richardson, The New. September 17th, 2008

"I'm a big fan of old school hard rock and Bluestone delivers the fix..."
-Spencer Peavy, Subrosa. October 4th, 2008

Bluestone began in 2002 led by one of Canada’s best female guitarists, powerful four part harmonies, a killer rhythm section and a dynamic brother & sister front. The self-managed band has carved out a unique style of rock, blended with guitar harmonies, dueling solos and both male and female lead vocals supported by a grooving bass and tight percussion section.

Ben Russell’s powerful, raw vocals and aggressive, driving guitar creates a perfect compliment and counterpoint to Angie Russell’s soul infused voice and her melodic, fiery solos. The two blend their sound into one dynamic, unified, hard rock display unique to Bluestone alone. The bass sound of Mike Stoodley provides a deep, rich groove that punctuates the band’s hooks and addictive sound. Sandy Hunter’s depth of technical skill and limitless ability is constantly on display as he accentuates the band with his own brand of percussion and drum work. The band’s combined three music degrees assist in their creation of intricate songwriting and infectious, addictive melodies to emphasize their poetic verses.
